Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (MEDICO-LEGAL): Course Code- FMTC001

Introduction:  Forensic science is a vital instrument for the detection or investigation of crime and the administration of justice, providing crucial information about the evidence found at crime scene, it is especially important that the training and education of forensic scientists provide a solid scientific background and a broad base in criminalistics. The validity of those results depends on the knowledge, skills, and experience of the forensic scientists working to obtain them. A forensic scientist must be capable of integrating knowledge and skills in the examination, analysis, interpretation, reporting, and testimonial support of evidence. Forensic science technicians investigate crimes by collecting and analyzing physical evidence. Often, they specialize in areas such as DNA analysis or firearm examination, performing tests on weapons or on substances such as fiber, glass, hair, tissue, and body fluids to determine their significance to the investigation. Proper collection and storage methods are important to protect the evidence. Forensic Medicine / Medical jurisprudence is a science of applying medical facts to legal problems. Forensic medicine is one of the largest and most important areas of forensic science. Forensic medicine has also become increasingly important in cases involving rape. Modern techniques use such specimens as semen, blood, and hair samples of the criminal found in the victim's bodies etc. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median hourly earnings of forensic science technicians are about $21.79 per hour.
